What do you use Personal Brand photography for?

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

This morning I received a delicious chocolate brownie delivery (a birthday gift from a superb friend!). In it was a great example of personal brand photography in use, which gave me the idea for this blog post.

So this brownie arrived beautifully boxed, surrounded in tissue paper, wrapped in paper and a ribbon, along with a note card, business card and voucher to encourage repeat business. The printed items were fantastic quality (not cheap vistaprint cards), beautifully printed and designed nicely. They all added to the luxurious feel of the product. Reinforcing it was a very special treat, and homemade.

And to reinforce the homemade, personal branding was.... some personal brand photography right there on the inserts. Photos of the baker (and in her website, her child too).

These pictures are not mine (that would have been a weird coincidence if they had been!). This is a wonderful example of personal brand photography that just popped up today. It captures what this lady is all about - homemade and personal. Added to her stationery, social media and website it immediately reinforces this brand identity at a glance. It instantly feels personal.

It’s so important now to show the face behind the business. And this wouldn’t have looked right using snapshots taken on a phone. It would have looked amateurish instead of luxurious. And even though amateurish pictures would have looked ‘personal and homemade’ while that’s what is on brand it just wouldn’t look right. It wouldn’t reinforce ‘quality’. It would look cheap.

This is where personal brand photography comes in. And it’s everywhere. Once you start noticing it, you can’t escape it. There are so many people starting small independent businesses (and there will be even more once the covid recession hits and unemployment levels go up like with the last recession) and this helps you to stand out from the crowd.

One of the things that draws me to personal brand photography is the marketing aspect. In my previous career I worked in marketing - for agencies and in house, working with big brands. I loved it. And the stuff like this - the website launches, the marketing tools, the social media... all of it was the stuff I loved doing. Particularly launching new products/brands. And personal brand photography is a huge part of that. And I love it!

And check out this lady.... I don’t know her, I’ve never met her, but her brownies are amazing and made a fab birthday gift. I’ll be keeping this one in mind for future gifts! Sod Amazon- this is the way to go!
